GB Group's Annual Fundraising Initiative - The GB Challenge
Since 2006 GB Group has been involved in raising money for a number of charitable organisations, the beneficiary is chosen by our employees and is therefore very close to our hearts and very well supported by staff, customers and suppliers.
We have completed a GB Challenge since we started our fund raising initiative. It is always a physically enduring challenge that tests both body and mind.
Our vision for the GB Challenge is to raise money for our chosen charity by maximising the effectiveness of our greatest asset, our people! We do this by inviting all staff to take part in an enduring physical challenge. The event encourages all GB staff to work together as a team towards a common goal, whether that is being involved physically or in a very valuable supporting role.

The 2006 Challenge - The National 3 Peaks Challenge
Back in 2006 we decided to tackle a project that would promote brand awareness for our ID3 verification technology, personally challenge our staff and raise money for a worthy cause. And so the ID3 Three Peaks Challenge was born (it was later re-named as the GB Challenge).
28 members of the GB Team took part in the challenge which would see them set out to climb Britain's highest peaks (Ben Nevis, Snowdon and Scafell Pike) in just 24 hours!! After weeks of training, the Challenge took place on the 14th & 15th July – with morale, enthusiasm and temperatures all at a record high.
We raised £10,811.27 for The Friendship Clinic Nepal
The 2007 Challenge - GB Group's Triathlon
Unfortunately we were not quite as lucky with the weather for our GB Triathlon Challenge – the rain started the moment we set off and truly did not stop for 24 hours!
35 members of the GB team left GB House in the early hours of the 13 July (yes, Friday 13th!) and headed for our drop off point in Bala, North Wales.
Our intrepid participants walked or ran, 21 kilometres (a ½ marathon) following route maps along country tracks to arrive at Lake Bala. From there they picked up their mountain bikes and cycled the parameter of the lake (approx 9 miles) before moving on to the final stage of the challenge, canoe orienteering set out on lake.
Overall it was a fantastic day where collectively we walked, cycled and canoed over 500 miles in some of North Wales wettest countryside!
We raised £8.288 for The Friendship Clinic Nepal
The 2008 Challenge - The Yorkshire Peaks
Over 50 members of GB staff participated in the 2008 challenge which took place on the 11th July 2008. This time we chose to do the Yorkshire 3 Peaks with a target to complete them all inside 12 hours! The very demanding but rewarding 24 mile walk took place in the summits of Pen-y-ghent (694 metres - 2,276 feet), Whernside (736 metres - 2,415 feet) and Ingleborough (723 metres 2,372 feet) all in one circular route.
Another fantastic achievement where GB Group's people showed what they are made of!
This challenge raised money to further develop independence by funding a project that will provide a filtration system for fresh drinking water and sanitation for The Friendship Clinic Nepal.
We raised £12,028.67 for The Friendship Clinic Nepal
The 2009 Challenge - The Lake District 3,000 Footers
Our challenge was to conquer 3 of the 4 highest mountains in England in one day (with linked transport). The challenge lent itself well to individuals who wanted to complete the entire challenge on their own as well as the groups who wanted to tackle it as a team (by each completing a peak). It was a very early start on the Friday morning so we arranged transport travelling to the Lakes on the Thursday evening. Over 40 members of staff spent the night under the stars before wenot only completed our challenge within the allocated time, but maintained true high spirits whilst the mountains of the Lake District threw some of their worst weather at us – even worse than the weather in previous years!
We raised £6,000 for Caudwell Children
The 2010 Challenge
The GB Challenge 2010 was held in May, we promised there would be no mountains this year but there were some hills!! The Sandstone trail was certainly not a walk in the park but it is supposed to be a challenge!
55 members of GB staff followed the trail for 34 miles/55 kilometres across the lovely rural Cheshire and north Shropshire countryside. It's one of the finest and most popular long distance walks in North West England - the ultimate 'Cheshire Way'.
We left GB House late on Thursday afternoon and started walking early on Friday morning so we camped over in Delamere for a 7.00am start. The Challenge is normally completed in 2 days but intrue GB fashion we decided to break tradition and do it in one day!!! We did it but it will be a day many of us will never forget – this was the hardest challenge yet!!
We raised £8,000 for The Friendship Clinic Nepal
The GB 21st Birthday Charity Ball
In 2010 GB Group also celebrated its 21st birthday so we decided to hold a charity Birthday Ball for all staff and their partners at the prestigious Peckforton Castle in Cheshire.
The event for 150 people helped raise funds of over £5,000 for The Friendship Clinic Nepal.
We really enjoyed the ball at Peckforton Castle. Not only did we celebrate 21 years in business, but we supported a very worthwhile cause and had a lot of fun in the process.
Peckforton Castle was the ideal venue choice for such a special occasion. The stunning surroundings provided the perfect backdrop for a corporate event with a difference.
We would like to thank our suppliers who helped make the event possible by taking sponsorship packages; these include Alterian, Ethoca, Iovation, Market Location, Millennium, Qire and Royal Mail.
